Q) Why are your prices lower than other Land Cruiser importers that I have seen on the Internet?
A) We don't think that it is necessary to make a $10,000 profit on each vehicle that we sell. These Land Cruiser models may offer luxury features, but most Land Cruiser owners don’t consider their vehicles to be luxury vehicles. So why the luxury prices? We would like to see more people enjoying these fantastic vehicles, so we offer more affordable prices.
Q) Is it difficult to drive a Right Hand Drive (RHD) Toyota Land Cruiser?
A) Most people in Canada have spent their entire driving life in a Left Hand Drive (LHD) vehicle So, for many people at first it may be an uneasy experience. But once the unfamiliarity of the situation has worn off driving a RHD vehicle, you begin to enjoy the experience. Within a few days of owning your new RHD vehicle you may actually prefer driving on the right. Many of our customers have commented on this.
The biggest challenge for most people is remembering that the windshield wipers and turn signals are reversed. The other controls of the vehicle remain the same, including the accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals.
Q) Is it safe to drive a RHD Land Cruiser?
A) Yes, if you take the same precautions that you do driving any vehicle.
Q) Is it dangerous to pass on a 2 lane road in a RHD Land Cruiser?
A) Passing on multi-lane highways/roads will take a bit of practice but becomes just as easy as with any other vehicle. This is further facilitated by the fact that all vehicles come with outstanding mirrors and plenty of engine power to help you pass.
Q) Why would I want to purchase a vehicle from Japan, instead of Australia, Germany or elsewhere?
A) Japanese used-vehicles are in better condition, are better constructed, are better maintained, and have more options than our local alternatives. In Japan vehicle maintenance is legally compulsory, and the strictest in the world.
A new car in Japan comes with three years shaken (pronounced SHARKEN) registration. Thereafter it is extended every two years after extensive tests including exhaust emissions, speedometer calibration, tires, lights and indicators, oil leaks, brakes etc. The cost for the inspection is about $1500 CDN not including any repairs that may be required to pass the shaken test. Should a vehicle fail the test it must be re-tested at the owner’s expense and this failure is permanently noted on the vehicle’s record which can reduce the value of the vehicle by up to 60%. Thus, most vehicle owners ensure that their vehicles are well maintained and up to standard.
Although these vehicles are over 15 years old, they tend to have very low kilometers, often between 75,000 and 125,000 kms. By North American standards those vehicles have only been through 3-6 years of use (based on an average of 20,000 km per year). Additionally, speed limits in Japan are quite conservative and do not exceed 80 km/h. All this translates into vehicles that have a lot of life left in them.
Q) Are these big Land Cruisers fuel efficient and highway speed friendly?
A) Much to everyone’s surprise, the 6 cylinder, 4.0L, turbocharged, direct injected diesel engine has a very high efficiency rating. Fully loaded, when driving the speed limit on highways, you can expect 10-13L/100kms or 22-28mpg. This further improves when empty and being light on the throttle pedal. The amazing power and torque of the 12HT direct injected engine makes overtaking traffic and maintaining a cruising speed of 120+ km/h a breeze. It turns mountains into little hills! Keep your engine well maintained and it should provide you years or trouble free, efficient operation.
Q) Can I still do my own servicing on these newer TDi Land Cruisers?
A) Thankfully, Toyota has kept both engine and chassis systems very simple in all Land Cruisers until later model series. Therefore, both the engine and chassis components are still easily accessible and can be straight forward to service. If you do not do your own servicing, this design simplicity and ease of access will still save you money at the Toyota repair shop.
Q) Is it legal to drive and insure a RHD Toyota Land Cruiser in Canada?
A) Yes. According to Federal Canadian law, passenger vehicles which are 15 years old or older are exempt from any Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards restrictions. You can drive and insure your RHD vehicle just as you would any other LHD vehicle.
Q) Will my diesel Land Cruiser pass Provincial urban air pollution tests?
A) If your diesel engine is maintained properly, as per the recommended Toyota service schedule, it will pass pollution tests with flying colours for it’s category many years to come.
Q) If a vehicle is not eligible for import now, can I purchase it now and have it stored until it's eligible for import?
Yes, but the vehicle can not be shipped to Canada until it's eligible for import. So the vehicle must be stored abroad until that date. We have made arrangements with our suppliers in Japan to store a few vehicles until they are eligible for import for a maximum of 12 months. Full payment for the vehicle plus storage fees is required.
Q) Where can I get parts for these special trucks?
A) We have numerous sources for all parts for these trucks, at prices below local dealers. Additionally, many parts for these trucks will come right from your local dealer.
